Wool Blends:

Wool-Nylon Blend:

This type of blend is usually found with 80% wool quantity and 20% nylon quantity. There is no doubt that wool is very durable but nylon has better durability because it can resist abrasion. So that is why, if a little nylon is added with wool, you will get more durability but since the carpet is 80% wool, you will feel it as its 100% wool. Furthermore, nylon is cheaper than wool so if you get this blend, your cost will decrease a little.

Wool-Olefin and Wool-Polyester Blend:

We will include olefin and polyester wool blends in same class mainly because of the similarity in their performance. You can think of these extra synthetic fibres as fillers that are dirt cheap as compared to wool because their addition to wool is mainly for the reduction in price. The only problem with this combination is that olefin and polyester are not very durable and even if you get the 80% wool and 20% of these fibres, the durability of the whole blend can decrease.

Wool Acrylic Blend:

Acrylic fibre is rarely used nowadays. It is a manmade fibre that is similar to wool in terms of feel but only cheaper. But the question is; if it’s similar to wool and only cheaper, why it’s not used anymore? Well that is because Acrylic is not very durable and won’t hold well in areas with high foot traffic. So if you get acrylic and wool blend, you can expect poor performance.

Nylon Blends:

Nylon-Polyester Blend:

This is probably the most commonly available blend of carpet in the market. Polyester mixes well with nylon mainly because of the softness of its fibre and its stain-resistant properties. However, as discussed above, polyester is not very durable so we suggest that you should not go above 20% polyester quantity in the blend to make sure it serves you well.

Nylon-Olefin Blend:

It is usually not beneficial to blend nylon with olefin because the only good characteristic of olefin is stain/spill resistance. Other than that, olefin will get dirty much faster than nylon. Furthermore, olefin is known to get crushed after some time so it is best to stay away from this blend.
